Houston Rockets’ Boban Marjanovic Created a Wholesome Moment During Team’s 2023-24 Season Finale
Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports

Boban Marjanovic is one of the league’s most beloved players even if he’s not getting that many minutes. The popular bench player on the Houston Rockets is met with cheers wherever he goes due to his bubbly personality that betrays his huge 7’4″ frame.

While the Houston Rockets barely missed out on getting into the play-in tournament, that doesn’t mean that there’s nothing worth celebrating about this season. They’re continuing their incredible rebuild and are on course to become a playoff team in the near future.

To further end the season on a good note, Boban did something that made both Rockets and Clippers fans love him more.

Boban Marjanovic purposefully missed a free throw so Clippers fans can eat for free

NBA teams have unique promotions during home games so fans will be more enticed to come and watch their favorite teams play. Boban was made aware of one of the Clippers’ promotions and tried doing right by the fans.

Per Sportz Bonanza’s Reid J:

The Los Angeles Clippers have a particularly interesting promo that states all fans in the arena will get free chicken if an opposing player misses two consecutive free throws in the fourth quarter. This promo came into play during the regular-season finale against the Houston Rockets, thanks to center Boban Marjanovic.

Both the Clippers and Rockets had virtually nothing to play for as teams were locked in their places on standings. So, when Marjanovic went to the line with 4:44 left in the fourth quarter and missed his first free throw, he decided to treat the Clippers fans with some free food. He intentionally missed his second free throw, telling the crowd: “It’s on me,” and prompted huge cheers from the stands.

Boban Marjanovic is a decent player, but he hasn’t gotten anything more than five minutes a game over the course of the season. For him to not care about the stats and give the fans something to cheer is about is on brand with who he is.

The Houston Rockets’ future is up in the stars

The Houston Rockets are at an exciting time of their franchise’s history. They have an exciting core of players in Jalen Green, Alperen Sengun, and Fred VanVleet to build around. The rest of the roster also pose to be exciting talents that can contribute to the team on any given night.

While it’s uncertain whether Marjanovic is a part of those plans, his actions for the Rockets this season will continue making him such a beloved character in the NBA community.
